SAVE RADIO

Who's Behind the People!Congress is Jumping On The Performance Fee BANDwagon.
This is a MAJOR deal folks. Local Radio is not dead. In fact, in an increasing technological society, Local Radio is one medium that hasn't changed much and doesn't need to. With the advent of digital broadcast television, fewer folks are looking to the boob tube and MORE folks are tuning to Local Radio for information.

One thing that hasn't changed in Local Radio is it's venue status. Although social networking sites such as Youtube and Myspace allow artists to showcase thier talents, local radio is still the big acheivement for most of those hoping to make it mainstream. When a likeable song is heard on Local Radio, one can call and request more of the same; thus increasing awareness of the artist.

Another timeless aspect of Local Radio is the advertising industry. When a station broadcasts likeable music, sponsors pay to display thier wares in between songs. Also, the increasing number of folks tuning into Local Radio for information present attractive oppurtunities for advertisers.

One major change to stations is the availablilty of MP3's of songs broadcasted for purchase on station's websites. These Mp3's ensure royaltees for the artisit/label. Let's face it, the big argument here is royalties.

The Flat Fee proposed in these bills could drastically reduce broadcaster's profits, undermining advertising and information delivery. It could ultimately lead to the destruction of Local Radio. Then where would we be? Berkely has pirate radio, but the rest of us would have to make due with Hd radio. We'd be stuck with Howard Stern and Glen Beck for entertainment...And Main Stream hiphop might just prevail...echk!
